In recent baseball news, Los Angeles centerfielder Mike Trout landed a 12-year $426.5 million dollar contract extension with the Angels. According to USA today, the deal when completed will be the largest contract deal in sports history in terms of total money. As a fan of baseball, I’ve seen great baseball players who’ve played for the same organization for years and not be given this kind of the offer. Mike trout isn’t the only baseball player getting mega million dollar contract extensions. Manny Machado and Bryce Harper are right behind Trout. Correct me if i am missing something but how could three of these baseball players who have never won a world series deserve such a payment. I understand that these three players were outstanding and have received individual awards, but what other components am I not aware of? The three individual contract deals are all above the $300 million dollars. In my opinion, the organizations can split these millions of dollars to acquire many young talent for the future of their organizations. These individuals are well deserving of these amounts and I’m not taking that away from them ,however, I believe a team’s success should depict whether players get the raises or contract deals they ask for. With that being said, Are players chasing for success more than money or vice versa? What makes an organization pay millions of dollars to one individual? If a team isn’t successful making an appearance to world series games or playoff contention, How would they allow one player to received such a contract extension?
